WEAPONS CRIMES

Many Kansans own weapons.  Kansans use them as tools or hunt with them.  Some people collect them.  Others have them for use in their protection.

Even though you have a Second Amendment Right to own and bear a weapon; that right is not unlimited.  The right to carry a weapon may be limited by your personal characteristics, the manner in which you intend to use the weapon, and place in which you carry the weapon.

Types of Weapons Crimes

In Kansas, most weapons crimes are considered crimes against public safety.  Those can be found in K.S.A. 21-6301 to 21-6313

The most commonly charged weapons crimes are:

–Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon; and

–Criminal Use of Weapons

You may also be charged with a weapons crime if you have been convicted of certain domestic violence offense, are addicted and use controlled substances, or is or have been mentally ill and subject to involuntary commitment.

 

Possible Punishments
